Blepharoplasty
Also known as Eyelid Surgery · Eye Bag Removal · Double Eyelid Surgery
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that corrects the appearance of the eyelids by removing or repositioning excess skin, fat, and muscle. It can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on the patient’s concerns and goals — creating a cleaner, more rested, and more refreshed appearance.

Am I a Good Candidate?
Blepharoplasty may be appropriate for those who:
- Are in good overall physical health and at a stable weight
- Are a non-smoker, or willing to cease smoking at least 1–2 months prior to surgery
- Are bothered by drooping, heavy, or puffy upper eyelids that affect appearance or vision
- Have noticeable under-eye bags or excess skin beneath the lower eyelids
- Have realistic expectations about what the procedure can achieve
What to Expect — The Procedure
Incisions are carefully placed within natural skin folds to minimise visible scarring. The surgeon will remove or reposition excess skin and fat as needed, then close the incisions with fine sutures. Upper and lower blepharoplasty can be performed together in a single session.
Pre-operative Care
- Cease smoking at least 4–6 weeks prior to surgery
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E) for 2 weeks before surgery
- Inform your surgeon of all current medications, allergies, and medical conditions
- Remove contact lenses before surgery and arrange to use glasses during the initial recovery period
- Arrange for someone to drive you home following the procedure
- Prepare lubricating eye drops in advance — your surgeon may recommend these for post-operative comfort
The following are general guidelines only. Your assigned surgeon will provide personalised pre and post-operative instructions during your consultation.
Post-operative Care
- Keep the head elevated at all times during the initial recovery period, including while sleeping
- You may wash your hair and face the next day, but avoid the eye area and submerging your face in water
- The less time you spend on screen devices, the better your healing and recovery will be
- Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments for wound checks and progress assessment
- Avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, and vigorous exercise until cleared by your surgeon
- Apply cold compresses gently around the eyes during the first 48 hours to reduce swelling
- Avoid wearing makeup or applying skincare products near incision sites until cleared by your surgeon
When to Call Your Surgeon
- Sudden or significant loss of vision or changes in eyesight

- High fever (above 38.5°C / 101.3°F)
- Excessive bleeding or unusual discharge from the incision sites
