Thigh Lift
Also known as Thighplasty · Inner Thigh Lift · Medial Thigh Lift
A thigh lift, or thighplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the thighs to create a smoother, firmer, and more toned contour. It is most commonly performed on the inner thighs, though outer thigh lifting may also be addressed depending on the patient’s concerns — often as part of a broader body contouring plan.

Am I a Good Candidate?
A thigh lift may be appropriate for those who:
- Are in good overall physical health and at a stable weight
- Are a non-smoker, or willing to cease smoking at least 4–6 weeks prior to surgery
- Have excess, loose, or sagging skin on the inner or outer thighs that does not respond to exercise
- Have experienced significant weight loss resulting in deflated or hanging thigh skin
- Are accepting of scarring in the inner thigh or groin crease area
- Have realistic expectations about the degree of contouring achievable
What to Expect — The Procedure
The extent and placement of incisions will depend on the degree of skin laxity and which areas of the thigh are being addressed. For minor inner thigh correction, incisions may be confined to the groin crease; more significant laxity requires an incision extending down the inner thigh.
Pre-operative Care
- Cease smoking at least 4–6 weeks prior to surgery
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E) for 2 weeks before surgery
- Inform your surgeon of all current medications, allergies, and medical conditions
- Arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you and assist you for the first 24–48 hours
- Arrange assistance with daily tasks for the first week — mobility will be restricted initially
- Prepare loose-fitting bottoms that are easy to put on without bending or straining the inner thigh area
The following are general guidelines only. Your assigned surgeon will provide personalised pre and post-operative instructions during your consultation.
Post-operative Care
- Wear any prescribed compression garment as directed
- Avoid submerging incisions in water until your surgeon confirms the wounds are fully healed
- Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments for wound checks and progress assessment
- Avoid spreading the legs widely or any activity that places tension on the inner thigh incisions for 3–4 weeks
- Keep the groin and thigh area clean and dry — moisture can increase the risk of infection
- Avoid vigorous lower body exercise, including running and cycling, for at least 6–8 weeks
When to Call Your Surgeon
- High fever (above 38.3°C / 101°F)
- Sudden or rapidly increasing pain not relieved by prescribed medication
- Excessive bleeding or unusual discharge from the incision site
- Sudden swelling in one leg noticeably different from the other — may indicate a blood clot
- Signs of allergic reaction — skin rash, severe itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing
