Breast Revision
Also known as Implant Revision · Secondary Breast Surgery · Breast Implant Correction
Breast revision surgery is a procedure performed to correct, improve, or address complications from a previous breast augmentation or breast surgery. It could involve repositioning, correction of asymmetry, or implant size adjustment. The specific technique used will depend entirely on the nature of the concern being addressed.

Am I a Good Candidate?
You may be a suitable candidate for a breast revision surgery if you:
- Are experiencing complications from a previous breast augmentation, such as implant rupture or displacement
- Are dissatisfied with the size, shape, or symmetry of your current implants
- Have implants that have aged and wish to have them replaced or removed
- Have experienced changes in breast appearance following significant weight loss, pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Are in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the outcomes of revision surgery
What to Expect — The Procedure
The complexity and duration will vary significantly depending on the condition of the existing implants and the goals of the patient. Your surgeon will provide a detailed surgical plan following consultation and imaging where required.
Pre-operative Care
- Cease smoking at least 1–2 months prior to surgery
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E) for 2 weeks before surgery
- Inform your surgeon of all current medications, allergies, and medical conditions
- Arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you and assist you for the first 24–48 hours
- Fast for a minimum of 6–12 hours prior to surgery, unless instructed otherwise
- Bring all available records of your previous breast surgery — including implant type, size, and manufacturer details
- Ultrasound or MRI scan may be requested prior to surgery to assess implant integrity
The following are general guidelines only. Your assigned surgeon will provide personalised pre and post-operative instructions during your consultation.
Post-operative Care
- Wear your surgical support bra or compression garment as directed, typically for several weeks
- Sleep on your back with your upper body slightly elevated for the first 2–3 weeks
- Avoid water activities (pools, ocean, baths) until your surgeon confirms the wounds are fully healed
- Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments for wound checks and progress assessment
- Avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, and vigorous exercise until cleared by your surgeon
- Recovery from revision surgery may feel more uncomfortable than your original procedure — this is normal and will be managed with appropriate pain relief
- Follow your surgeon's instructions regarding compression garments closely, as these are particularly important in revision cases
When to Call Your Surgeon
- High fever (above 38.5°C / 101.3°F)
- Sudden or rapidly increasing pain not relieved by prescribed medication
- Excessive bleeding or unusual fluid discharge from the wound
- One breast significantly more swollen, red, or warm than the other
- Wound edges opening or separating
- Difficulty breathing or chest pain
- Signs of allergic reaction — skin rash, severe itching, or difficulty breathing
