Breast Lift
Also known as Mastopexy · Breast Uplift
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes sagging or drooping breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. The procedure repositions the nipple and areola to a more youthful, forward-facing position, restoring a firmer and more elevated breast contour.

Am I a Good Candidate?
You may be a suitable candidate for a breast lift if you:
- Have breasts that sag or appear flattened and elongated
- Have nipples that point downward or fall below the breast crease
- Have stretched or enlarged areolas
- Have lost breast volume and firmness following pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss
- Are at a stable, healthy body weight
- Do not smoke, or are willing to cease smoking prior to surgery
What to Expect — The Procedure
The choice of incision technique depends on the degree of sagging, your breast size and shape, and your surgeon’s recommendation. All incisions are placed as discreetly as possible and are typically well-concealed by a bra or swimwear.
Pre-operative Care
- Cease smoking at least 4–6 weeks prior to surgery
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E) for 2 weeks before surgery
- Inform your surgeon of all current medications, allergies, and medical conditions
- Arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you and assist you for the first 24–48 hours
- Fast for a minimum of 6–8 hours prior to surgery, unless instructed otherwise
- If combining with augmentation, discuss implant preferences and sizing in detail with your surgeon
- Prepare a soft, wire-free supportive bra to wear post-surgery
The following are general guidelines only. Your assigned surgeon will provide personalised pre and post-operative instructions during your consultation.
Post-operative Care
- Wear your surgical support bra or compression garment as directed, typically for several weeks
- Sleep on your back with your upper body slightly elevated for the first 2–3 weeks
- Avoid submerging incisions in water until your surgeon confirms the wounds are fully healed
- Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments for wound checks and progress assessment
- Avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, and vigorous exercise until cleared by your surgeon
- Avoid underwire bras for a minimum of 6–8 weeks, or until cleared by your surgeon
- Be mindful of arm movement in the first 2 weeks — avoid raising arms above shoulder height
When to Call Your Surgeon
- High fever (above 38.5°C / 101.3°F)

- One breast significantly more swollen, red, or warm than the other
- Wound edges opening or separating
